Sweden (Malmö) based Industrial Design Engineer Arman Mudde (born 1969, the Netherlands) started his professional career in 1998. He studied at the Delft Technical University, The Netherlands. After graduating under professor Spoormaker as Industrial Design Engineer (Msc.) he moved to Sweden, the centre of Scandinavian Design ...
He joined a group of entrepreneurial consultants of the Sigma Consultancy group, based in Lund under the taskforce entity name 'Sigma Innovation' early 1998.
Meanwhile Sweden detected the possibilities of the fast upcoming internet technologies at an early stage. Among the Scandinavian start-ups landing in the Lund area was the technology company Blokks AB, developing fiber-to-the-home solutions in these early days already. Arman Mudde was part of the management team as the overall Design Manager of the company with responsibilities in the area of product design as well as corporate identity and branding.
Being frequently consulted by several external companies he decided to set up his own studio under the name NLDesign by 2002. In the same year he became also associated to the Lund-based engineering and consultancy company JOIN Business & Technology AB. This alliance allowed NLDesign ongoing to widen the span of projects while ensuring specialized engineering support (in several technical area's) and continuity for its customers, even in more extended or time-critical development paths. Until today this partnership brought numerous challenging projects for companies like Baldwin Jimek AB, Opsis AB, ITT-Flygt AB, Redsense Medical AB and Ecolean AB. An even larger number of projects was executed under full non-disclosure (NDA).
His work has been covered by several technical and design publications worldwide. The design for the Baldwin LithoSpray Maxima dampening system was even nominated in the US for an international industrial design award. Recently Arman Mudde supported the Asian subsidiaries of the Baldwin Technology Comapany with the technology transfer of design and manufacturing towards South East Asia, including local knowledge support in Shanghai (P.R. of China).
Through his background in Industrial Design Engineering, working according to production and manufacturing processes, Arman has a natural desire for designing towards use and functionality. Describing his process, he further refers to an intuitive approach that introduces experimental curiosity to his way of working. His work is based on the idea to create objects that have a meaningful place in specific process or everyday life and solve a particular problem. His work is known for manufacturability as well as functional reduction towards utility. Over the years he expanded his knowledge of applicable technologies and materials, while introducing new manufacturing approaches and product applications.
